The movie Evan Almighty takes the story of Noah and gives it a bit of a modern twist. It is a controversial movie among Christians. The portrayal of God and Noah isn't true to Biblical form; however, there are some great teachable points. One of my favorites is when Morgan Freeman, who portrayed God, poses the question, "When we pray for something, does God simply give it to us or provide opportunities to exercise that trait?" ...

Faith is foundational. It's the catalysis grace needs for Salvation (Eph. 2:8) and without out it, it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6). Active faith brings healing like the woman with the bleeding issue (Mark 5:34) and even a minuscule amount can do big impossible things like move mountains (Matt. 17:20). Faith is complex. We cannot see it, but it's literally the substance and evidence of our life through Christ and our future home with Him. (Heb. 11:1). Bold faith beacons people to follow Christ, and faith of every size is honored by God and multiplied by His faithfulness. Lots of days, my faith reflects failure more than hope. My big and bold looks more like reluctant and unwilling.   But thankfully, God's faithfulness doesn't rely on mine. His work gets done in-spite of me.  But, because our God IS God, people like me can do big things. Look at Hebrews 11 -- The Hall of Faith. Biblical...

Kindness is not a courtesy — — but that's how it seems to play out in my life, ya know? I want to be that person, though.  I want to be the one who emulates Christ so well that His traits are first nature instead of screaming at me from the closet… in the basement… with duct-tape over His mouth.  Ok, I'm kind of kidding, but for real, it's hard not to focus on the negatives. They don't have to scream. They are ever-present and on repeat.  In fact, negatives are the duct tape that silences kindness -- telling me, it's ok to be reclusive and bitter since the world is chaos and people...

Brothers' Keeper, affectionately known as "BK" for short was established in the year 2000. Based at Parchment Valley Conference Center reaches out every year to the community for mission projects. Most are construction projects for low income families or families with a handicapped member. Youth groups from around West Virginia and surrounding states have come in to do mission work in Jackson County, West Virginia. Every year Brothers' Keeper serves over families all over Jackson County, all while developing a mind for mission work in over 100 youth missionaries and our adult counselors and crew chiefs. At the center of yearly planning is Gospel Scripture from the book of Matthew, chapter 25, verse 40. What better way to serve Christ than by serving His creation? Projects consist of a variety of home maintenance and repair; minor construction such as wheelchair ramps, porches, decks, porch roofs; painting inside and outside; sealing trailer roofs; yard...
