Community Matters

The Hillcrest Bruce Mission is an outreach of the United Methodist Church serving the Pollard Community of Ashland KY. Our mission is to embrace, encourage, empower and equip the neighbors we serve through the love and healing grace of Jesus Christ.  We assist with their well-being by meeting their needs and add value to their lives by ministering peace and demonstrating God’s love. River Cities Community Church offers two opportunities for people in the community to take part in prayer. "We want to show our community that we care about them by praying for their needs." Tri-State Prayer Line A 24/7 anonymous prayer line where volunteers are ready to answer calls and pray with those in need.     Drive-Thru Prayer This unique outreach offers prayer with those who "drive-thru" our main parking lot on Thursday, May 6, from 4-7 PM. This is a great way to spend the National Day of Prayer!   Brothers' Keeper, affectionately known as "BK" for short was established in the year 2000. Based at Parchment Valley Conference Center reaches out every year to the community for mission projects. Most are construction projects for low income families or families with a handicapped member. Youth groups from around West Virginia and surrounding states have come in to do mission work in Jackson County, West Virginia. Every year Brothers' Keeper serves over families all over Jackson County, all while developing a mind for mission work in over 100 youth missionaries and our adult counselors and crew chiefs. Hope's Place About: Hope’s Place is a victim-focused, children’s advocacy center that provides a safe atmosphere, lessens trauma and promotes healing by maximizing services through a multi-disciplinary team approach for child victims of sexual abuse. Hope’s Place actively seeks to reduce the occurrence of sexual abuse and heighten awareness through prevention education. Facts: Statistics show that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by the time they are 18. In other words; 400,000 babies born this year in the United States will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Children are the victims in 66% of all sexual offenses reported to law enforcement. It is estimated that this crime is severely underreported and that the actual numbers are much higher. Sexual abuse is a genderless crime void of socioeconomic limitations. Studies show up to 90% of children who are victims of sexual abuse know their abuser and 60% of children who are sexually abuse...

Backpack Buddies Changing the lives of children one weekend at a time.   Backpack Buddies is an organization dedicated to reducing the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over the weekend to children residing in food-insecure homes in Lawrence County, Ohio. Backpack Buddies serves children and families in Lawrence County, Ohio through our Backpack Program and Emergency Food program.
