Poppy’s Coffee, Tea, and Remedies Poppy’s is a Christian coffee shop in Gallipolis, Ohio. Owner, Greg Hall wanted to create an atmosphere where people can come and enjoy great coffee and where he can tell people about his love for Jesus.  In March, Poppy’s responded to the need and started a food pantry. They partnered with local churches and loaded vans to deliver food to impoverished areas.    Listen to our Community Matters Interview with Greg “Poppy” Hall:      Pull up a seat and let Greg serve you a coffee, latte, espresso, smoothie, tea, hot chocolate or special request. Poppy’s has books to read, live music and gift shop.    To learn more about Poppy’s Shop or the Food Pantry, visit them on Facebook or their website. There is nothing like talking to a friend and hearing her words echo something God is producing in my life and vice verse. It is so validating and confirms that God is at work–not that I should need confirmation, but sometimes, I really do. This past week, I spoke with a friend about some difficult circumstances in her life, specifically her child’s health. I told her the verse that is my “Truth I’m Standing On,” which is our Walkfm theme right now. She excitedly blurted out, “That’s the song I’ve been praying! I just don’t know what to pray anymore, so I’ve been praying that song.” How cool is that!? Something that seemed so casual and unrelated spoke boldly into both our lives at that moment. I had no idea how much that song meant to her and what an encouragement it would be to her that God is listening.

Cultivating new relationships is difficult in any scenario, but trying to merge two families takes an extra measure of care. Both Magan and Derek parent in blended families and have graciously allowed me to ask them some questions about their experiences.   1) What is your best advice for families who are ABOUT to unite? There is a lot of talk about planning and doing these days, which is necessary, I get it. But it got me thinking about what we’re not talking about and planning for…rest, time to ourselves, “self-care.” During this shutdown/quarantine/staycation season, you may have had some extra time to consider resting, but did you? If you’re like me and mine, you tore through your to-do list instead. Sometimes decluttering brings a form of rest to mind and soul, but it doesn’t count. Here’s my theory. (Bear with me. I’m going to rant a little, but I promise I’ll move on quickly.) The Rant: There is a nationally recognized day for moms to take it easy. It’s called “Lazy Mom Day.” Really? Lazy.Mom.Day. Lazy is the Kryptonite word for every mom (a.k.a super mom) out there. It’s our secret fear that we will be seen as lazy if we sit down for
